With everything going on, sticking to a regular training schedule had gotten really difficult, which was bad when some of the things that had been going on included torture and Sia actually dying in battle. At the moment, nothing was exploding and she was still waiting on her next orders- she’d bet money that she’d be on her way back to Taivas- she took some time to go down to one of the training rooms to work on lightsaber drills.

Besides, part of her week included a memorial service for the ex that she was still pretty sure was alive and most people hadn’t found out about the ex part, so this was a good chance to work some things out.

Conveniently enough, Jessica was also stopping by the training rooms for her own kind of lightsaber drills. Hers were more about defense from them, though. If she was going to keep getting into fights with Sith, she needed something to deal with lightsabers. The cortosis guards the Knights wore were great, but were too bulky for Jessica, and probably sent some signals to the troopers about being too chummy with the Knights. But she was able to find some phrik vambraces that should be able to resist saber blows AND be hidden in her uniform.

"Hey, Sia," she said when she spotted the princess. "Wanna hit something with a lightsaber?"

"Several times," Sia said, slowing to a stop. "Why, what did you do?"

She just assumed without looking that Jessica had done something that required lightsaber hitting.

"Phrik vambraces," Jessica said, holding them up. "I want to test them under controlled conditions before I test them on my arms."

"I'm happy to help," she said. She really did like the stuff Jessica ended up coming up with. "Is there any specific way you need me to do it?"

Jessica fired a few weblines to suspend the vambraces in the middle of the room, safely away from any arms. "Go relatively easy on them. My research says that phrik is lightsaber resistant, but I don't want to ding them too badly. I was only able to hunt down the two for now. So if you could hit them with a couple glancing blows and then a medium-strength strike each, that would be perfection."

"You come to me on a week like this and want me to go easy on them?" Sia said dryly, but it was almost all teasing. So she did as instructed, with lighter blows, and then a slightly harder one, to see how they passed.

"If I still had any schematics for making some Tony Stark-style force fields, I'd reinforce the hell out of these things and you could go crazy on them," Jessica said as she inspected the vambraces. "They held up. No visible damage. I don't think they'd take more than a few full force blows, but they'll help out in a fight."

She took a couple steps back. "You can cut the webbing if you want."

"That sounds unsatisfying," she admitted.

She gave the webbing a few pokes anyway.

"Yeah, but it's convenient for me," Jessica said, grabbing the vambraces as they were cut down. "How are you holding up?"

Sia shrugged one shoulder as she shut down her lightsaber. "I'm holding. I'm not sure whether life going on as normal is a good thing or not yet. In the case of Antares, it's frustrating."

The breakup wasn't bad enough that she wanted him dead, after all.

"In a whole bunch of ways, I'm guessing," Jessica suggested. Because that dude was frustrating without anything else going on. "I don't know that it's a good thing or a bad thing. I tend to see it as just A thing. You deal with those things how you deal with them. And as long as you are dealing, that's the good thing."

"As best I can. Which is possibly why Atton thought he had to keep an eye on me," she said. Or maybe it was why she asked him to stay. "I keep reminding myself that we're moving towards ending this, and I can deal with things until then."

"Good. That's the Sia I know and love," Jessica said. "And once we end this, we'll deal with everything else."

"Your form's gotten pretty good for a diplomat princess," Atton said, leaning against the doorway. "Next thing you know, you'll convince me you're not a Niman-only girl."

“”You know me, always keeping you on your toes,” Sia said, not breaking from what she was doing quite yet. “You missed me during the more intensive training.”

"Did you actually jump up and down every now and again in that one?" Atton asked, stepping into the training room.

“Once or twice.” She shut down her lightsaber, turning towards him. “Is this where you tell me what I could be doing differently?”

"Please, lightsaber training is a pain in the ass," Atton said. "I'm not going to do that unless you pay me."

He was mostly joking.

“I always liked it. It’s good catharsis,” she said. “Did you need the room, or did you just come down to watch me get sweaty?”

"Why can't it be both?" Atton joked. "I mean... uh... good workout."

Sia smiled a little, which she appreciated, when she was doing less of it than usual lately. “If you need it, it’s yours. I’m not really doing anything too serious.”

Atton shrugged, and gestured towards one of the lightsabers hanging off his belt. "I just keep these around in case something blows up in our faces when we least expect it," he said. "But a little practice won't hurt."

“From what I remember before I left, you were still learning on one,” Sia said. “When did you pick up a second?”

"Not too long after you left," Atton said, clipping one off his belt. "Just the one is a little stodgy for me. I'm better with two."

It supported the fast, aggressive Form VII he was getting good at.

“That actually makes sense for you,” she decided, and added, “You got good.”
