Room 317- Tuesday after classes

Sia had known at some point that she'd be called home to do some work, and to be honest she couldn't believe it had taken this long. And if it turned out this was was a "You were safer there and we wanted to protect you" thing, there was going to be so much yelling. But since she got the call, she found she was actually excited to be going back for a little while, and set to making arrangements for while she was gone.

Which meant leaving a voicemail and then packing. She didn't really have a ton of arrangements to make here.

"What kind of work?" Atton asked. Wasn't sure why he warranted a call right now, but hey, he was a little glad he did. Somehow. Somewhere.

Never mind.

She paused, but decided she could tell him this much. "I have to meet with some people, determine whether they're loyal to our side or not," she said. "It should be extremely interesting if you're me."

Atton raised an eyebrow. "Sounds like it should be extremely interesting to anyone in your situation trying not to get killed," he said.

"I doubt it'll come to that," she said. "Most of the people I'm dealing with have known me my whole life and will be sympathetic to me, if not my cause. I'll be prepared but I don't think it'll be that exciting."

"Hey, if you say so," Atton said lightly. "Thanks for letting me know you won't have wandered off into a black hole or something."

That was Attonese for he cared!

"Thanks for coming," Sia said, because she kind of got the meaning behind his thanks there. "But I also have a favor to ask."

Atton paused mid-lean-against-door frame. "...Does that involve effort?"

"Some," she nodded. "I need someone to watch Vitor while I'm gone."

Atton immediately fixed the dog with a baleful stare.

"I don't know how Jessica feels about dogs," he weaseled.

"I'm sure Jessica's fine with dogs, and I'll be calling her to let her know personally, too," she replied. "You did say you would."

"Yeah, but I didn't think--"

She was going to leave school before him.

"...How long is this trip going to be?"

"Not longer than a week, I'd say," Sia said. "And I'll remind you, knowing that someone volunteered to care for him while I was gone was the deciding factor in keeping him."

"He better not gnaw on any of my stuff," Atton muttered.

He should've just stayed on Nar Shaddaa-- except no absolutely not this was much better.

"He's very well behaved," she promised. "Except on walks when his number one priority is attempting to chase squirrels."

"Does he actually keep the squirrels from writing about you if he does?" Atton asked. "Because that would actually be useful."

"No, and in fact that's part of why I'm trying to train him not to do that," she admitted.

"Couldn't you just train him to do that but better?" Atton asked.

[notconflicted]

"No. And you're not to try that either," Sia told him.

"What are you going to do, spy on me?"

Sure, Atton probably couldn't train a dog, but now he was going to try.

"Just don't train my dog to terrorize rodents," Sia said. "I shouldn't have to say that."

You were leaving your dog in the capable hands of an ex-Sith, Sia. If that was the worst Atton wound up trying to train the dog to do, it'd be a small miracle.

"The dog already terrorizes rodents," Atton pointed out. "I'm just making him be useful while he does it."

"I'm so glad you're roommates with Jessica." At least she knew she could get Jessica on her side.

Atton rolled his eyes. "The words you're looking for are 'thanks for looking after my dog, Atton'."

"Thanks for looking after my dog, Atton," she said. "I'd still better not have to retrain him in a week."

Vitor just barked quietly, because it'd been like five minutes since he'd had attention actually on him.

Sigh. And to think only 24 hours ago he'd been encouraging drunk April to do horrible things in a bar. How quickly life could take a turn for the worse.

"Fine, whatever, just enjoy your time schmoozing with the elite or whatever you'll be doing," he said.

It was more like having a lot of clandestine meetings because she was in exile and all, but she was actually happier letting people believe there'd be schmoozing. "I'll do my best."

Atton turned to Vitor. "And you are not going to be a pain in my ass," he instructed. "If you have to be, be a pain to Jessica. She's sturdy, she can take it."

"I'm sure she'll appreciate that," Sia said dryly.

"Hey, like you said, maybe she likes dogs."

Probably not that much.
