The good thing about returning from a diplomatic tour was that after the initial flurry of people trying to tell Sia what she might have missed while she was gone, Antares could take over handling that so that she could head back to her quarters. He'd say it was to rest, Sia thought of it more as "breathing for a second without twenty people bothering her at once." Maybe it was the same thing.

Her things would arrive after her- of course she didn't have to carry her things herself- and for now all she had to do was say hello to her dog, who was very happy she was back.

You know who else was happy she was back? Jessica.

Well, more like she was happy Sia was back during a brief Coruscanti overlap before Jessica herself had to go off on another mission. Overlap time on Coruscant could be difficult to arrange occasionally.

"Welcome back!" Jessica said as she poked her head in. "I know you're probably wondering what you missed while you were gone, but all I have to report is unimportant nonsense. Sorry."

"I would love to hear about unimportant nonsense," Sia said immediately, waving her in.

"Well, I found a bakery run by an Ewok that basically makes an Earth-style chocolate cake. I had no idea that chocolate existed here, that it was rare, or that little teddy bear guys knew how to use it in desserts," Jessica marveled.

For the record, it was all basically canon.

"This all means that you're absolutely working too hard," said Sia, a hypocrite. "Though I didn't know about the bakery either."

"On days off, that kind of work is its own reward," Jessica said. "Actually, the cake is the reward. I'll pick some up for you next time I'm there."

"Thank you. Are you here for a while at all?" Sia checked, as Vitor rested his head on her knee to watch them.

"A couple days. Then I'm off for the Saleucami system. Seems like there's Black Sun is trying to set up shop out there, so I need to see if they have a foothold or if I can still make them scurry off," Jessica said. "Do you get to stick around for a while?"

"At least a couple of weeks, as long as nothing terrible happens before then." Was she mentally crossing her fingers? Of course. "Your job sounds more interesting."

"Of course it is. Less bureaucracy, more action," Jessica said. "Any day you get to punch a space mobster is a day where something went REALLY wrong."

"Or really right, depending on what kind of mood you were in."

It'd be nice to punch space mobsters sometimes.

"As much as I enjoy an Empress throwing down, I doubt that's a majority opinion with your security team," Jessica joked. "But they're not in this room, so they're outvoted."

"I've outvoted them before," Sia told her. "I just have to literally choose my battles."

And one time she did that and got run through with a lightsaber, so.

"Just do that carefully. I've been there when it didn't go your way," Jessica reminded her. "But I can't speak. I had a hole blown right through me in Battleworld. So I guess just make sure it's not too fatal."

"Too fatal," Sia repeated, amused.

"Sometimes we play by different rules," Jessica said. "Play weird-ass games, win weird-ass prizes."

"I think I would call getting impaled or holes blown into us something different than 'prizes.'"
