Coruscant- Thursday
Sia could hear the commotion outside her office door, and at first tried to ignore it. After a moment, though, she stopped what she was doing to sit at her desk and try to listen. There was enough soundproofing that she couldn't make out individual words, but she recognized the voices: one personally, one through recordings and clips.
A minute after the voices stopped, there was a knock at the door.
"Yes, Master Draco," she called.
Antares stepped in, and Sia dismissed the guards with a wave of her hand.
"Ania Solo is very intent on seeing you," he informed her.
"I trust you put her back in her place?" Sia asked. She actually wanted to meet with Ania, mostly. She was just choosing to do it on her terms, and she refused to encourage the current trend of bathing into her office demanding something.
"For now. She will be back."
She nodded, and gestured for him to sit, so he did. "That's not what you came here to say."
"She wishes to talk to you about Jao Assam," Antares told her, and Sia internally flinched just a little. "Ania Solo has been cleared of all charges. The information Jao has been feeding to us has been nothing but correct."
Sia knew. She knew, and she felt terrible, and there also wasn't much she could do about it. "I can't just rescind a death sentence without an explanation," she told him. "It can't just be undone. The Knights as an organization can't have me flipping on something like that, let alone the larger government. Especially after he escaped custody just yesterday. He doubled down on the crime he as already sentenced for."
Yes, she'd messed up. Hard. And a lot. But if she ever wanted to fix things later, she couldn't admit to it now, even if she wanted to.
A lot of things at this level, she'd found, came down to covering someone or another's screw-up. Sometimes it was hers.
"No. But Sia," he said, and if he was using her name this was now officially not a professional talk, "I believe something should be done."
Sia frowned, and nodded. "I'll work on it," she promised. "Make sure eyes are still on Ania at all times."
"Of course," Antares said, understanding, and stood to go.
