Coruscant- Tuesday

Sia had wanted to meet with Ania, this mysterious possible relative who just happened to be involved in the worst moment of Sia's political career, but days before she'd thought this meeting would happen, Antares and Master Val came to her office with bad news.

"What do you mean she escaped?" Sia demanded. "She wasn't a prisoner!"

"We may not have done a good enough job of convincing her of that," Antares said simply.

Sia sighed, and held out her hand for the datapad she saw him holding. "Did you find out anything about her? Is she who we think she is?"

He didn't say anything, just let her read over the intel they had gathered on her. It confirmed some of what Sia had already suspected of the family lineage, but they'd also gotten into her background. She'd been in an Imperial prison camp on Drash-So, convicted of murder, but had escaped. Most recently she had been working as a junk trader in the Carreras system, though there wasn't any information on how she had come to know Jao, or how she'd ended up on Wredd's transmission.

"And Jao Assam is with her?" Sia asked, handing the datapad back.

"I take full responsibility, Empress," Val said, bowing his head.

"I regret that my faith in your responsibility is wavering, Master Val," she told him wryly. "It seems I can't rely on my most trusted Knights anymore."

Val nodded once, and said, "Jao is going after Darth Wredd himself. Empress, I must tell you that he saw a vision in the Living Force. He feels he must do this."

"Then he deserted," Sia said. This was the second time in- what, a week?- that he had disobeyed orders and gone off on his own, and 'he had a vision' was not a sufficient excuse. Worse, the Carreras Incident meant that people would be watching for news on him, including other Imperial Knights, and this was not an example he could go setting. "The girl must be brought to me," she continued, "and not in luxury this time. As for Jao Assam, the penalty for desertion has always been death."

That hung in the air for a moment, and Antares said, "Master Val, you are excused."

"No need," Sia said, raising her chin. She knew what was coming, and she was not having it. "We all know the oath we swore. If we don't follow it, there's no point in taking it. You're both dismissed."
