Coruscant- Tuesday

Sia liked to get check-ins on the array project when possible. Either Master Val would call in and give an update, or one of her aides would check in at random, and she'd been so busy that she hadn't realized how long it had been until she got the transmission from one of the other Knights involved in the project, Jao Assam, because he hadn't heard from Val, and hadn't gotten any updates himself.

"It is rather worrisome, but construction delays are not unheard of, Jao," Sia pointed out once he'd finished talking.

"Then he would have used the comm droid to give us a new ETA," Jao returned. "Something's wrong. I know it. We're ahead of schedule here. Let me go to the Carreras system."

"No. You've been assigned to oversee the Ithorian link in the array, and that's what you'll do. Master Val can more than take care of himself."

"But Empress-"

Sia arched an eyebrow. "Are you questioning me, Jao Assam?"

"Of course not, Empress," he said quickly. "I will make sure that my part of the link is finished on schedule." And with a nod of his head, he ended the transmission, his little blue figure disappearing into nothing.

Antares was quiet for a moment before saying, "Jao has a tendency to be rash, but his instincts are good. It is odd that we haven't heard from Yalta Val."

"The Carreras system is tricky," Sia reminded him. "We have to give Val time to do his job."

"We don't have any Knights to spare. For every seasoned warrior like Yalta, we have two inexperienced greenlings like Jao. We can't afford to lose anyone," Antares said.

She didn't point out that he'd wanted to send Knights to Ord Cantrell when the attack had happened there. She didn't need that argument again, even if she took this to mean she'd been right.

"Do you want the whole galaxy to know that? Our Knights personally represent the Galactic Triumvirate. We must show the galaxy that we will follow through on our promises." Sia sighed, setting her forearms on the table and leaving so she could rest her chin on them. "I'm so tired of trying to make Master K'kruhk and Admiral Stazi understand that. I thought I could at least count on you, Antares."

It was genuine frustration that was maybe meant to be a bit of a guilt trip, and it worked. He laid a hand on her shoulder, saying, "Of course you can. Always."

"So we can't go jumping at shadows, agreed?" she asked, sitting up a bit. "We don't have the luxury of looking weak."

Antares nodded. "Agreed."
