Sia was here so she could be there for her best friend at the worst time ever, and today that meant staying in and ordering out and watching movies.

"It's been forever since I've had a day like this," Sia said. "...If I ever have."

"Yeah, even back in school, there'd be some kind of excuse to go to the common room," Jessica said. "Hanging out by the stairwell here would probably just seem suspicious. That's the kind of encouragement apartment life gives for staying in."

Of course, Jessica had several hang out days after school, when a bunch of now dead people lived with her in an apartment that would now be lucky to be space dust. She was trying not to dwell on that.

And being a good Force sensitive, Sia wouldn't make her dwell on anything.

"They also seem to deliver a normal amount of food to residences in town," Sia noted, a little surprised.

"And they skimp on things like condiments and napkins," Jessica said. "And one time I ordered a pepperoni pizza and they put one single pepperoni on the pizza. They said the 'a' was about the pepperoni. It must be part of a balancing act they have for the dorm insanity."

"I'm sure they could balance things out fine if they behaved normally," Sia pointed out.

"I get the feeling that's not in the mission statement," Jessica said. "If it helps, I had a chat with the manager to remind him of how to treat customers right. I think I scared him."

"Has it changed anything?" she wondered.

"They get my ingredients right now," Jessica said. "I don't want to push it farther than that, though."

"A small victory is still a victory," Sia decided. "Is there anything else you've learned here as an adult that you should pass on?"

"The social life takes a hit when you're not in the dorms, but that's the trade off for actually having room to live," Jessica noted after a moment's consideration.

"And not having to share a bathroom, or deal with possessed television programming..." She frowned. "I assume. Does that still happen?"

"Not that I've noticed, but I don't really watch much TV outside of my news binges," Jessica said. "It's possible that I still have TV trauma from that one time that led to sock hops and everything."

"Oh, just when I had repressed that," Sia sighed.

"Sorry. At least that one was relatively harmless," Jessica said. "We were all just kind of dumb during it."

"I seem to remember trying to find a husband," Sia said, grimacing.

"I flirted with Cade. I'm not sure which decision was worse," Jessica joked.

"That," Sia said, and smiled. "Sorry."

"No, no, you're right," Jessica said. "But at least he was wearing sleeves at the time like a respectable person," Jessica joked.

"I never thought I'd see the day," Sia said, shaking her head. "Technically I still haven't."

"It was a phase he grew out of," Jessica said. "I think we're really just lucky he didn't adapt to Earth fashion and decide to go with sweater vests all day, every day in school."

Sia frowned hard at her after a long, silent moment.

"I can't even imagine that. Even a little."

"Be glad. It's a weird mental image," Jessica warned.

"And to think in the past I've been able to count on you for mental images that were at least amusing," Sia teased.

"That's the other big change into adulthood. The mental images get weirder and more disturbing," Jessica said. "Like Atton as a mime."

Sia actually laughed. "I'm telling him about that one."

"Don't be surprised if he never talks to you again," Jessica said. "Because mime."

Aww, that sounded more like Jessica. "That was terrible and I can't believe we're friends."
